With new transformer oil prices steadily rising, having your existing transformer oil reclaimed to "like new" conditions will save you up to 70% of the cost.
The majority of the reclamation work can be done at the customer's site with the transformer shut down. The length of time required for the shut down depends on how much oil is in the transformer and the vacuum level achievable.
Particle decontamination and PCB removal must both be performed at our facilities in Winnipeg. The time needed to reclaim used oil depends on the level of contamination and the volume to be processed. While we are able to reclaim PCB contaminated oil, processing oil with PCBs over 500 ppm becomes cost prohibitive.
Transformer oil is first tested for water content, dielectric strength, neutrality, interfacial tension, dissipation factor & presence of PCBs.
If lab test results show only high water content and low dielectric strength, the oil can be reconditioned at your site through a vacuum process using our oil treatment trailer. If the transformer can withstand full vacuum, proper vacuum dry out of the core and paper is recommended.
Processes to be performed include:
If neutrality, interfacial tension, dissipation factor or PCBs are also out of specification, the oil will need to be drained from the transformer and transported to our site for reclamation. In this process the oil is run through fullers earth beds, PCB decontamination and vacuum processes to improve all properties. PCB concentration is reduced to and below our highly competitive target of 2 ppm.
If done in a timely manner with our services, transformer oil can be reconditioned indefinitely.
Depending on the volume of oil you have and the volume you require, it may be more cost effective to purchase reclaimed oil.
